BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Football Performance and Excellence

We are pleased to introduce a Level 3 in Sport with a Performance and Excellence route that focuses on Football. It is an exciting opportunity for local 16-18 year olds to continue their education, whilst developing their footballing ability and having the opportunity to feel what it’s like to represent Bolton Wanderers.

Throughout the ‘Football Performance and Excellence’ course, all taught content will be delivered with the primary focus on linking the curriculum to football scenarios and aiding players understanding of how to optimise performance on the pitch. These sessions are enhanced by regular visits and contributions from current first team players who can answer questions and provide their insight.

Classroom content will investigate how the body works, its adaptations to training, designing of fitness programmes and the influence of fitness testing, as well as how the mind impacts a player’s performance. Alongside this, players will expand their knowledge of the rules and regulations of the game, the key technical and tactical features, how to provide an in-depth analysis of performance and how lifestyle choices can have positive and detrimental effects. Furthermore, players will learn how to deliver effective coaching sessions, whilst also being supported to gain FA Coaching Badges.

Training

Alongside the classroom time, training sessions will be included in the players’ timetable which link their theoretical knowledge to a practical setting, whilst developing their playing ability. Three 1.5 hour sessions will take place each week at Bolton Wanderers Lostock training ground. A professional environment, with outstanding playing facilities, will allow ‘Football Performance and Excellence’ players to train alongside the First and Academy teams!
These sessions will look to replicate the experience the Club’s scholars are receiving as they are prepared for match days through technical, tactical, physical and social development via a series of conditioned practice games.

Matchdays

Whilst home matches are played on the state of the art facilities at Lostock Training Ground, away matches involve road trips across the North West. Throughout the year, players will also be given the unique opportunity to play in prestigious friendlies against teams from across the globe!
